QUE SERA SERA

Que sera, sera is Spanish for, ‘what will be, will be’.  It’s usually said when conveying resignation to a situation one considers unchangeable.

I understand that life can throw one challenges that can take the fight out of him or her. Disappointments and discouragements can drain one of the will to go on, and deprive one of
the motivation to see the possibilities that lie beyond the stretch of the imagination. Usually when a person gets to this place, he accepts whatever comes to him as his lot in life. As understandable as this situation is, it is a sad place to be.

What is even sadder, are those who just accept whatever life throws at them as their lot. This category of persons do not need a challenge to inform this decision; it is merely their life’s philosophy, ‘que sera sera; what will be, will be’.

In my walk with God I have come to a higher understanding from the Bible, that you will be short changing yourself if you resigned yourself to a ‘que sera sera’ philosophy. It is important that a child of God understands EARLY that the thoughts God has towards him or her, are thoughts of good and not of evil, sealed with the guarantee of a hope and a future. It is also important to know that every detail of your life is written in God’s book.

You are not a mistake! You did not just show up on life’s scene! You are not without purpose! If you are here on earth legitimately, that is, you are flesh and blood and not a robot or ghost, then God has a plan for your life. You just need to know it otherwise you’ll keep going around in circles.

Psalm 139:15-16 says:
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there were none of them.

What I find intriguing here and will lay emphasis on today, is where it says ‘…in thy book all my members were written’. First of all, God has a book where ALL there is to know about me is documented! All my members! That means everything that is a part of my life is documented-the family I’ll be born into, the schools I will attend, the people who will play significant roles in my life, the events and processes that will shape me, the seasons I will transit through, my spouse, my children, jobs, businesses, my money, my friends, my ministry and everything that completes me and defines who the Lord has created you and I to be is documented.

Therefore, anything that is not a member or a part of me is clearly NOT written! This means that if I know what is written, I can tell immediately when I see something odd come to join itself to me. This must be the reason Jesus was vexed when he entered the temple and saw people buying and selling in it, because that is not what was written about God’s temple!
His words in Matthew 21:13-

‘…It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.’

Jesus could react that way when he saw an anomaly in the temple because He knew what was written. Do you know what is written about you? Do you study the scriptures and spend time with God in the place of prayer inquiring about what is written? If you do not know what is written, your life will be made into something it was not designed to be! If you do not know, people and things that have no part in your story, will find a role to play in your life! Stop being resigned to fate!

Stop being ignorant and giving others the power to make you into something that you are not! God is a speaking God. If you ask Him, He will tell you; He’ll show you things about you and lead you in the right path to ensure that you do not miss your way. Don’t be made into a banker when what is written of you is Fashion designer; don’t be made into a pauper when what is written of you is successful entrepreneur; don’t let anything and anyone convince you that you are barren when what is written is that you are fruitful.

You must insist on what is yours and not accept any less; you can do this only when you know what it is that is yours! My brothers and sisters, I encourage you to seek to know, so that you can live your life to the fullest.

I am assured that what is written of you are good things because His thoughts towards you are thoughts of good to give you a future, and a hope you will not be ashamed of. Get into His presence, make enquiry and insist on what’s yours. Cease from that ‘que sera sera’ philosophy. It will only make you live like a pauper when there is a king in you.

God bless you!
